Sisters do not necessarily look alike. Sisters can have different personalities. Both premises are used for comic relief in the movie “Sisters” starring Amy Poehler as the conservative Maura and Tina Fey as the totally dysfunctional Kate.
Their family home is up for sale. The parents have moved to a planned retirement community (The Villages?) and are ecstatic about their new carefree lifestyle.
An offer to buy the family homestead is made and the closing is in process. Both Maura and Kate are infuriated that their parents would sell their ancestral abode and set about to have a “going away” party which readily gets out of control. The house is trashed to discourage the closing. Even God is on their side creating a sinkhole in the front lawn. Unbeknownst to them, their parents make a surprise decision.
As in most Saturday Night Live cast movies, there is a written situational laugh-a-minute that makes the plot jumpy. Poehler and Fey, both listed among the six producers, most likely twisted things to include a spate of other SNL cast members.
While definitely not perfect, “Sisters” is a relief from heavy drama and sci-fi movies currently being shown. For laughs, it gets a benevolent “B Grade”.
