Remember the ‘60s?

When all those freaky, long-haired kids went skinny-dipping at Woodstock?

Who knew all these years later that plenty of those aging hippies would be living in The Villages?

One thing about the ‘60s hasn’t changed: the music. It was great then, and still rocks today.

That’s why “The ‘60s Dance Party,” for three nights   – Feb. 23-25 – at 7 p.m. in the Savannah Center should be so groovy. The Broadway Bound Players – directed by Carol Greenfield — will present the show. It features costumes, dance contests, skits, and, of course plenty of what Goldie Hawn might call sock-it-to-me sounds. The show has Cabaret seating at tables.

The Flashback Rock and Roll Band will supply the music of the ‘60s, from the Beatles to the Stones to Motown.

“Everybody knows ’60s music and it brings back so many great memories,” Greenfield said. And Greenfield has reason to celebrate more than just the sound of the ’60s. She recently announced her engagement to fellow Villager Steve Grossman.

Seems like “All You Need Is Love,” is more than a Beatles anthem for ’60s’ veterans.

“I love ‘60s music,” said Ralph DiNome of the Flashback group. “It was such a creative time for music with great bands and singers.  When I first heard the Beatles I wasn’t crazy about them. But they kept making great records and I love them, everybody loves them.”

DiNome gets nostalgic when he talks about such 60s stars as the Temptations, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Grace Slick and the Jefferson Airplane, the Doors and even some of the lesser knows groups.

“I like the song ‘Black is Black,’ by Los Bravos,” DiNome said.  “I love Sonny and Cher’s ‘I Got You Babe.’ There is such an incredible amount of music from that era that still holds up today. We’re going to play as much of those songs as we can.”
