“The Mayor of Juniper Villas” is the newest supervisor in Community Development District 8.

Residents of CDD 8 crowded the District Office boardroom at Friday’s supervisors’ meeting in support of Village of St. James resident Larry McMurry who was chosen to fill a board vacancy created by the recent resignation of Victor Ray.

Residents also showed up in support of applicant Stan Carpenter. A third applicant, John Conboy III, was not present and no one spoke out on his behalf.

Residents supporting McMurry talked about his extraordinary efforts to look out for his neighbors. That has ranged from doing yard work for residents with physical ailments to going door-to-door to alert neighbors to upcoming road maintenance.

His leadership has prompted his neighbors to dub him “the mayor.”

McMurry spent his career as a civil servant.
