A dog escaped injured when a fire broke out Friday afternoon at a home in Oxford.

Sumter County Fire & EMS and The Villages Public Safety Department responded to the blaze at 4:26 p.m. at the home on County Road 105.

Smoke was coming from the rear of the structure when firefighters arrived, said Sumter County Fire Chief Leland Greek.

Fire personnel forced entry into the residence and quickly extinguished the fire, which was confined to the back bedroom. During their search of the residence firefighters were able to rescue a dog that was in the residence and was determined to be unharmed. No one was home at the time of the incident. The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical, Greek said.
