Summer is nearly over but the fall concert season is ready to blossom. It’s busy time and the coming week features a variety of music and performers.
Tonight, Friday, young country singer and American Idol star Scotty McCreery plays a sold out show at The Sharon. If you don’t have tickets, you can still see McCreery perform Saturday night at the Oveido Amphitheater. For information go to: http://www.
Local performers will be in the spotlight tonight, Friday, at 7 for “ABBA Meets the Beatles.” It’s part of the monthly Showcase of Talent at La Hacienda Recreation Center.
Among the performers: Jan Lavin will sing, “Imagine; ” Jack Kolinski offers “The Long and Winding Road” while Diana Arlt performs “In My Life.” Mia Reeves does the ABBA classic, “The Winner Takes It All,” while Georgianne Hill sings “I Have A Dream.” There will also be dance and comedy routines.
Sue Schuler will be in the spotlight at her regular singing competition called “Divas Vs. Divos”Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Savannah Center. The multi-talented Schuler teams with equally skilled Dawn DiNome to lead the Divas.
The guys on the Divo team are Alex Scopino and Jamie Klatt. Expect plenty of surprise guests and lots of great songs.
Fans of Jerry Lee Lewis will be ready to rock with piano man Jason D. Williams, Monday at 5 and 8 p.m. at Savannah.
Jerry Lee was a mentor for Williams, who offers the same wild stage antics as Lewis. Williams blends country, ragtime, jazz and good old rock and roll.
The last time Gerry “Rocky” Seader played an unplugged show with his Rollers, the Rock wound up playing drums on a garbage can.
Who knows what will happen on Thursday Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. when Rocky and the Rollers play an “Unplugged” show at Savannah.
Finally, Mary Jo Vitale, a longtime Villages favorite, appears with Dawn DiNome on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.in Savannah Center. They will sing Broadway show tunes and other numbers.
