Fans of Donald Trump were eager to see his vice presidential running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, in his Villages debut.
Dick Clapp of the Village of Calumet Grove was one of the lucky ticket holders eager for the venue to open up Saturday morning.
Clapp arrived wearing a Trump/Pence T-shirt and hat. His golf cart was decked out with Trump/Pence signs.
Clapp survived the “overbooking” fiasco announced Friday night. But he knows others who learned their tickets would not be valid.
“Let’s just say they’re not happy,” he said.
The Pennsylvania native said his home state could be tough sledding for the Trump/Pence ticket.
“Let’s just hope people see the light,” he said.
Security at Savannah Center was tight for the event. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and Community Watch had personnel at every entrance.
