“Christmas through the eyes of a child” is the theme this holiday season at the historic Baker House.
“The house this year is more beautiful than ever,” said Baker House Director Gidget Gibson. Each room is decorated by a different company or individual.
“We have people spending two hours going through the house looking at all the little details,” she said.
Gibson encourages taking your time when touring the home. She said that at first glance you see the room as a whole, and they are stunning, but if you take the time to absorb all the little touches you can truly appreciate the decorator’s intent.
You have one more weekend if you want to see the house before Christmas. The Baker House will be open Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 17 and 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for tours. The tours are self-guided with a docent in each room to answer questions.
This year the Baker House was open for an evening tour for the first time ever. The event held this past Monday was such a success, 242 people came through the house in two hours, that Gibson says they are probably going to add one more evening tour to the tour schedule after Christmas. The date will be announced on their website, www.bakerhouseproject.com and on the Facebook page.
The house will also be open on Dec. 31 for tours.
The history room has also been expanded during this touring season. Located in Wildwood the Baker house, home of Senator David Hume Baker, was built in the 1880’s. The Senator’s original letters and speeches are on view.
The Baker House is located at 6106 CR 44A. Tickets are $10. Private tours can be scheduled for groups of ten or more by contacting Gibson at (352) 461-1140 or [email protected]. Put Baker House in the subject line.
