A man deemed by acquaintances as too drunk to drive home was arrested after allegedly attacking his potential ride home.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies responded Sunday night to the parking lot of Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages after 22-year-old Cody James Williams allegedly punched a man who had tried to convince Williams not to drive due to his level of intoxication, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The man and his wife had tried to persuade Williams to ride home with them.

Williams was arrested on a charge of battery and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.

In 2016, Williams had been injured in a motorcycle accident on U.S. 301. You can read about that incident HERE
