An old, old adage is that “A dog’s purpose is to please humans while a cat’s purpose is to do as it pleases.”
In the case of the current movie at the Old Mill Playhouse at Lake Sumter Landing in The Villages, “A Dog’s Purpose” takes us on a pleasant tour through three dog lifetimes from their viewpoint. It’s the same narrator but the dogs are different in size, shape, and gender. Tales are told mostly at the dog’s eye level.
Relationships are prosaic. The common thread in the companionship is a Frisbee stunt where the dog uses the owner’s back as a springboard to catch the disc.
There’s not much to dislike in this feel-good movie. If you have ever been a dog owner, you’re going to love this flick. It lasts a bit too long, but you can sit in the last rows, cuddle and reminisce if you brought a partner.
For me, I vote for more action. For relaxation therapy, it is a solid B.
