A 34-year-old man has been arrested in an attack on a 65-year-old woman in the April Hills subdivision in Lady Lake which left her injured and bleeding profusely.

The woman said she looked outside shortly after noon on Wednesday and spotted a man, later identified as Leroy Alexander Rogers of 921 April Hills Blvd., in a shed on her property.  She approached him and asked him to leave, but he responded, “Give me some time to smoke some crack,” according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. She then got a kitchen broom and tried to scare him away, but he still would not leave. She then went back into her home to get a handgun. He met her at the door and attempted to enter her home. He then took the gun from her and struck her in the face with the gun several times, the report indicated. He then fled on foot.

Police arrived, set up a perimeter in the area and a K-9 unit was brought in. Rogers was taken into custody and the gun was recovered at his home on April Hills Boulevard.

He is facing charges of burglary, robbery by sudden snatching, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and theft from a person over the age of 65. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $62,000 bond.

Rogers had been arrested earlier this year on a charge of possession of narcotic equipment.
