A suspected shoplifter was taken into custody Wednesday night after allegedly attempting to steal toddlers clothing from Beall’s.
Charlene Agnes Nichols, 30, of Summerfield, entered the store on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday and selected three pairs of toddlers shorts and three toddlers shirts, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. She went into the ladies restroom and when she came back out, she was not carrying the items. A loss prevention officer went into the restroom and found the tags for the items in the trash. Nichols was stopped by a loss prevention officer and later admitted to taking the items and removing the tags. The merchandise had a value of $40.20. Nichols was carrying $76 in cash at the time.
She was arrested on a charge of petit theft and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $500.
