Frankie Brin Financial 70’s Wins FHCASA Spring Blast Senior Softball Tournament which took place over two days on April 1 – 2, 2017.
Frankie Brin Financial (FBF) 70’s traveled to Carmalita Park in Punta Gorda, Florida to compete in the top bracket of the 70’s. For the second consecutive month, three teams had an identical 3-1 record, Nor Easters, Venom, and Frankie Brin Financial (FBF). FBF won the tournament with the second tie breaker, runs given up. FBF gave up 15 runs in 4 games, which was phenomenal.
Saturday’s first game was a 18-0 victory for FBF over DAF. Roger Scott, Dave Sellars, and John Rebardo went 3-3 with Dave Sellars adding 5 RBI.
The second game against Nor Easters resulted in a 14-1 win for FBF. John Rebardo and Ed Krisha went 3-3 with Ed getting 4 RBI. Our defense was outstanding which was led by John Rebardo who made 5 outstanding plays with Gary Nicolay also making a number of excellent defensive plays.
Sunday’s first game against Fred’s Market resulted in a 18-2 win for FBF. Roger Scott and John Rebardo went 3-3, while Gary Nicolay, Dave Sellars, Rod Severson and Carter Honkonen went 2-2. Floyd Williams had a 3 run ITP HR.
The second game on Sunday was against Venom. A win by FBF would have given FBF a 4-0 record and the championship. Venom won the game 12-10. For FBF to have any chance to win the tournament, Venon had to lose to Nor Easters which they did 13-10. Defense, pitching and hitting were the key ingredients to winning this tournament.
Ed Krisha did an excellent job pitching all 4 games. His paralyzer pitch worked magnificently for 3 games. Gary Nicolay and Floyd Williams did the bulk of the running with others filling in.
