When Lake County sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene of the stabbing Monday morning in Clermont, they found Matti Barnash holding a towel to the shoulder of her boyfriend. He was very weak and unable to speak due to the loss of blood. He was transported by Lake EMS to South Lake Hospital.

Matti Barnash initially told deputies that she and her boyfriend had been walking in the neighborhood when a person in black clothing ran up and stabbed her boyfriend and then ran away. However, a deputy found a pink knife nearby in a pool of blood. She admitted it was her knife.
A witness told deputies Matti Barnash and her boyfriend had been arguing in his front yard. He also said the boyfriend had been sleeping outside at night, in an attempt to get away from Matti Barnash, his girlfriend of three years.
When deputies asked Matti Barnash for her name, she responded, “You figure it out.”
She was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $10,000 bond.
In 2014, she had been arrested on a charge of driving while license suspended. In 2013, she had been arrested on a charge of driving under the influence.
