Bay Street Players’ ‘Hot Flashes’ takes audience through midlife women’s changes

Menopause move over, “Hot Flashes” has arrived courtesy of the Bay Street Players in Eustis.  A musical comedy, by Kate Finn and Rick Weiss, it will keep you laughing and your toes tapping.

Four women Kate (Jae LeDoux), Sharon (Wendy Starkland), Marvella (Tanya Wilder) and Lynn (Kelly Lake Coy) will singularly and together take you through midlife women’s changes. Upscale and energetic songs such as “I will never age,” or “I want a trophy husband,” tell the tale of the mood swings, hot flashes, ups and downs of menopause. There are profound and comical poetic recitations to complement the music. The four have individual great voices and together they blend in superior four-part harmony. Bob Wright is picked from the audience (supposedly at random) to be a shill in one scene. Cookie Wright assists in opening act two with a bingo game and later as a seniors home resident with dementia.

The ensemble is backed up by David Fouse on piano and Dustin Fisher on drums.

Even before the action begins, Kate enters the auditorium and interacts with the audience as she works her way to the stage. The others join and start with jokes and one liners that tie into the play’s theme.

The play has one more date to run, at 8 p.m. May 14. I highly recommend going to Bay Street for a musical treat. You can buy tickets HERE
