Frankie Brin Financial 70s win FHCASA Seminole County Slugfest Senior Softball Tournament held on July 8 – 9, 2017.
Frankie Brin Financial (FBF) 70s traveled to Seminole County Sports Complex in Sanford, FL, to compete in the top bracket of the 70s. FBF won the tournament with a 4-0 record giving up 24 runs in 4 games, while scoring 55 runs.
The weather was brutal throughout the tournament. Saturday’s games were cut short due to lightening. The format for Sunday’s games was 1 pitch with a courtesy if you hit a foul ball or hit the ball into the net. There was a 30 minute time limit. When the alarm sounded you finished that inning and played one additional inning.
Saturday’s first game was a 14-8 victory over Lane Construction. Players with 3 hits were Roger Scott, John Rebardo, Floyd Williams, Rod Severson, and Carter Honkonen.
The second game against Senior Moments resulted in a 15-9 win for FBF. Players with 3 hits were Dick Kanyan, Bob Buchanan, Darrel Smith, Linwood Manning, and Carter Honkonen. Darrel Smith had an Inside the Park, Grand Slam HR getting 4 RBI and Carter Honkonen getting 3 RBI.
Sunday’s first game against the Florida Venom was for the Championship. It was a one pitch contest that FBF won 7-6. It was a tightly fought contest. Dick Kanyan had 3 hits while Roger Scott, Gary Nicolay, Jim Greco, and Rod Severson each had 2 hits.
The second game resulted in a 17-1 win for FBF over The Catfish Place. Players with 3 hits were Roger Scott, Bob Buchanan, John Rebardo, and Floyd Williams. Rod Severson had an ITP HR driving in 2 runs. Most of the other players had 2 hits.
Ed Krisha did an excellent job pitching all 4 games. His paralyzer pitch worked magnificently against the Venom and The Catfish Place. We had excellent defense and timely hitting. Gary Nicolay and Floyd Williams did the bulk of the running with others filling in.
