Community Development District 7 supervisors have agreed to explore the possibility of encouraging residents to do some extra powerwashing.

The debate has been spurred by a resident who complained that curbs and gutters are dirty and covered with soot.

By the resident’s estimate, the tab for powerwashing the curbs and gutters in CDD 7 would be about $37,000.

An accumulation of soot can be seen along the gutter on Canal Street.

That amount was discussed at Thursday’s board meeting and supervisors indicated they felt it was pricey.

“If we did this and the headline tomorrow was ‘CDD 7 to spend $37,000 on powerwashing,’ my phone wouldn’t stop ringing,” said Supervisor Jerry Vicenti.

Chairman Ron McMahon noted that the $37,000 would amount to about $9 per household.

“Once you start doing this, you have to ask, does this become part of an ongoing expense?” warned District Manager Janet Tutt.

Years ago, Community Development District 4 had encouraged residents to take it upon themselves to powerwash the curb and gutters around their homes. They communicated the idea through notifications at postal stations. CDD 7 supervisors agreed to examine what CDD 4 has done and gauge the effectiveness of that effort.

While the board took no action, supervisors agreed to keep the idea on the agenda.
