The woman who championed the restoration of the Baker House in Wildwood is stepping down from her leadership role in the historic preservation project.
Gidget Gibson in 2012 took on the role of project manager for the Baker House, the former home of Senator David Hume Baker who moved to Sumter County after the Civil War. The house was completed around 1880.

When Gibson stepped in, the house had fallen into some neglect. She lovingly began the restoration at the home which is now a favorite spot for residents to visit, particularly during the holidays. Tours raised money for ongoing restoration at the Baker House.
“This project was a true labor of love,” Gibson wrote in her letter of resignation to the Wildwood Commission.
