Villagers approached the Amenity Authority Committee on Wednesday and requested a wall be built to prevent intruders from entering their yards.
Gloria Crowley, who lives on Tarrson Boulevard in the Village of Silver Lake, spoke out on behalf of herself and her neighbors.
Their properties back up to Griffin Avenue.
A standard four-board fence has been in place for many years.
But the circumstances have changed, Crowley said. A sidewalk was put in on the non-Villages side of the fence, increasing foot traffic in the area.
“People are climbing over the fence and coming through our backyards. We need a fence, a wall, something,” she said.
She said the large apartment complex, The Quarters, located on County Road 25, may be providing some of the foot traffic.
District Manager Janet Tutt told Crowley there are “other options.”
She said residents could put up landscaping that could discourage entry into their yards.
Tutt also encouraged residents to sit down with local law enforcement and express their concerns.
She added that if an intruder is spotted, residents should not hesitate to call 911.
