A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy arrested a wine-drinking woman Tuesday night at a gas station.
The deputy spotted a five-year-old child holding an empty single-serve wine bottle and running around the parking lot in the rain shortly before 9 p.m. at Love’s Travel Stop in Bushnell.
A woman, later identified as 36-year-old Tiffany Jane Cowell of Brooksville, was spotted near pump 13, leaning against a concrete barrier, according to an arrest report. The child told the deputy he had a wine bottle that Cowell had thrown down in the car.
Cowell was “incoherent” and provided the deputy with her maiden name. The child told the deputy his and her name and the area where they live.
She was arrested on a charge of child neglect and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. She was released after posting $2,000 bond.
