Squabble over beer and cigarettes turns nasty in Dunnellon

Brooke Elizabeth Palmisano

An argument over cigarettes and beer turned violent late Wednesday night in Dunnellon.

According to a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies responded to a home in the 21600 block of SW Raintree Street after a woman called 911 while she was being attacked by another woman.

When deputies arrived, the victim said she had driven to a nearby gas station to pick up cigarettes and beer and after returning to the house, she sat on the couch in the living room.

A short time later, the woman said, Brooke Elizabeth Palmisano, 27, came out of her bedroom and asked about the cigarettes and beer. The woman told Palmisano that she didn’t buy her cigarettes or beer.

Palmisano became irate and started swearing at the woman, the report states. The woman also claimed that Palmisano hit her with her fists while she was sitting on the couch. The woman said she got into the fetal position in an attempt to block herself from the punches.

The woman told deputies that Palmisano hit her in the torso area underneath her right arm, on both of her cheek bones and on the back of her right arm where her tricep joins the back of her elbow.

After the woman managed to call for help, she said Palmisano stopped hitting her, walked back to her bedroom and eventually went outside.

The deputy noted a bruise with slight discoloration on the victim’s right elbow/triceps area, as well as a “very faint” red mark on her right-side rib cage underneath the right arm. But the deputy said he didn’t see any marks or injuries on the victim’s face.

Palmisano claimed that the woman became irate and start yelling after she returned home from the gas station. She said the woman was upset because Palmisano “allegedly ate most of the food the victim had cooked previously.” Palmisano also denied striking the woman and said there was no physical altercation between them.

Palmisano was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with two counts of domestic battery and held on $10,000 bond.

Palmisano also was arrested by Marion County deputies in January and charged with domestic battery and simple assault with intent/threat to do violence. But according to Marion County Courts records, both of those charges were either dropped or abandoned by the prosecutor.
