A woman was tracked down at her home after allegedly stealing merchandise at Belk at La Plaza Grande in The Villages.
Kathy Tenpas, 58, was located Tuesday morning by law enforcement at her home on Eagles Nest Road in Fruitland Park. She was given a notice to appear in Lake County Court on June 19 to answer to a charge of retail theft.
She was confronted with video surveillance images captured the day before at Belk when she left with $149 worth of stolen merchandise, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. A loss prevention officer spotted a silver Nissan leaving the parking lot and got the license plate number. It led police to Tenpas.
She initially denied it was her. The statements she gave were inconsistent and her behavior was “erratic,” the report said.
