Keith Crabtree

A man was arrested Friday after an early morning shooting left two people wounded in Ocala.

Keith Crabtree was taken into custody and charged with attempted felony murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a new legend drug (federal law prohibits dispensing without a prescription).

According to an Ocala Police Department report, at about 4:20 a.m. Friday a man and woman were shot near 710 SW 18th Ave. Shealyn Largent, 22, was wounded in the neck, while an unidentified 44-year-old man was shot in the buttocks. Both received non-life-threatening injuries and were in stable condition after being transported to a local hospital.

Largent, who was identified as Crabtree’s girlfriend, was later arrested at the hospital for causing a disturbance and refusing to leave the premises. She was charged with trespassing.

Earlier this morning, Crabtree had been detained and questioned as a suspect in the case. He denied any involvement in the shooting and “was not forthcoming with information regarding the incident,” the report says.

Detectives learned that Crabtree had previously been in possession of a backpack that was believed to contain synthetic marijuana and the alleged firearm, the report says. It was located behind a privacy fence by officers searching the area near the shooting scene.

The backpack contained an older model .22-caliber revolver with a long barrel that matched the description given by the victim, a medium-sized bag of a substance that tested positive for synthetic marijuana and other items that were booked into evidence, the report says.

Crabtree was transported to the Marion County Jail on Friday afternoon where he is being held without bail. While being escorted to an awaiting Ocala Police patrol car, he shouted several obscenities at those who were photographing and videotaping him.
