Alexander Tanel Smith

A man was arrested after an alleged attack on his girlfriend’s mother who confronted him about a threatening Facebook post.

Lady Lake police officers were called at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to a home in the 700 block of Summit Street where 28-year-old Alexander Tanel Smith was taken into custody on a charge of domestic battery.

Smith has been staying at the home of the mother of his pregnant girlfriend in an attempt to “settle their differences and make it work,” according to an arrest report.

The mother confronted Smith after she discovered a disturbing post on Facebook.

“I will either be dead or in jail …” in a few hours for what he “is about to do,” Smith wrote, the arrest report said.

When he was confronted, Smith told his girlfriend’s mother to leave him alone. He then told her to, “Shut up.”

The mother reminded Smith that it was her house and she could say what she wanted.

He responded by throwing a small fan at her, causing lacerations on her face and arm.

Smith told police he was being “harassed.”

He was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $2,000.
