To the Editor:
What with the number of recent Letters to the Editor, both “pro” & “con”, so far as Donald Trump is concerned (and mine have all been “con”), I was reminded of the story set forth in Exodus 32 regarding the creation of the Golden Calf by the Israelites (aka Republican Villagers!) while Moses was on the mountain receiving the Ten Commandments from God. Many of these Trump supporters, most of whom I would suspect would call themselves “Christians”, could take a lesson. They have established their own Golden Calf (ie, Donald Trump) on the altar they have constructed to his undeserved glory. According to the Bible, the Lord said to Moses: “Go down, because your people, whom you brought out of Egypt, have become corrupt”. He went on to say: “I have seen these people and they are a stiff-necked people.” And while the Lord relented in visiting his vengeance on the Israelites, he did strike the people with a plague because of what they did with the Golden Calf. What a parallel to our present times! In his 18 months in office, the “Golden Calf” has accomplished nothing positive on behalf of our nation and its citizens. Instead, he has continued to denigrate and vilify our judicial system; has excoriated our national security apparatus; has alienated our closest allies on the world stage; has groveled at the feet of Vladimir Putin, a sworn enemy of the United States; has belittled the leaders of our perennial friends; and has disrupted the orderly operation of our own government like no one before him. The man is not only an imbecile, but actually believes that he is the second coming of the Lord based on the unabashed adulation that so millions of Americans continue to lavish upon him for no good reason. And if there are any such good reasons, I would certainly like the opportunity to debate those issues. As Forrest Gump once said: “Stupid is as stupid does”. And this continued support of The Golden Calf is proof of that pudding.
