A Weirsdale man who came home from a local bar and smashed a toilet in his front yard was arrested Tuesday afternoon.
When Marion County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the man’s home on S Hwy. 25, a woman told them that she believed 61-year-old Donald W. Boorum was “very intoxicated” when he was dropped off after drinking at a nearby bar. She said Boorum began to yell about fixing his toilet and refused to wait until he was sober, as she asked him to do.
The woman said Boorum broke the toilet against the wall and then carried it into the yard and threw it down. She also said he cut his left index finger on the edge of the broken porcelain.
The woman told deputies that Boorum then picked up a board and raised it over his head like he was going to strike her, while saying, “(Expletive removed), I’m going to kill you.”
The woman said she was afraid and called for help as Boorum unsuccessfully tried to take her phone away, the report says.
Deputies found Boorum sitting in a shed on the property. He claimed the woman had cut him with a large butcher knife, then later said he may have cut himself on the toilet when it broke. He also claimed the knife was still in a bedroom inside the house but was unable to show deputies where it was, claiming the woman “must have moved it.”
As deputies were exiting the residence, they took note of two large dirty kitchen knives next to the sink, neither of which had blood on them, the report says.
Boorum was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with assault with intent to commit a felony and held on $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom Sept. 11 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge.
