Villages Musical Theater going retro with all-star show honoring its past

The Villages Musical Theater will reach back into its past with an all-star show.

The cast of ‘A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum.’

“There’s No Business Like Show Business” will be held Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the La Hacienda Recreation Center.

Villager Billie Thatcher enjoyed her role in ‘Gypsy.’

“This show will be a review of the shows we did from 2002 through the Spring of 2011,” said Bill Davis, chairman of The Villages Musical Theater. “The performers include a number of people reprising their original roles, as well as people who had leading roles in other shows.”

“It’s a great way to look back at what we’ve done,” said longtime Villages Musical Theater performer Billie Thatcher. She goes back to the theater company’s early days in “South Pacific,” back in 2002.

Ironically, The Villages Musical Theater will present a new version of “South Pacific” next year.

“I was lucky enough to play Nellie,” said Thatcher, who appeared in a number of other productions. “It’s hard work but it’s a lot of fun. I can’t believe 16 years have gone by so fast.”

‘Hello Dolly’ drew quite a crowd of Villagers.

More than 20 performers will appear in “There’s No Business Like Show Business.” They will sing songs from such shows as “Gypsy,” “South Pacific,” “My Fair Lady,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Oklahoma,” “Damn Yankees” and “Annie Get Your Gun.”

Tickets for residents only are $15 and available at The Villages Entertainment box offices.
