Cliff Wiener officially became a Community Development District 4 supervisor when he took the oath of office this past Friday afternoon.
The Village of Piedmont resident, who also serves as president of the Property Owners Association, was appointed by the members of CDD 4 to replace Jim Brockman, who made the decision to leave The Villages to be closer to family. Wiener also spent three and a half years on the Architectural Review Committee, has given his time to the Community Improvement Council and was the treasurer of the Ohio Buckeye Club for 10 years.
Wiener’s first meeting this past Friday was a busy one, with the main topic of discussion being that of the ongoing sinkhole issue in the Village of Calumet Grove. Wiener and his colleagues were told that Marion County officials apparently believe they’ve done their part by ordering residents Doris Morrill and Frank and Jan Neumann from their damaged homes. And the county said that both homeowners still have time to remedy the situations with their property in the issue that has been ongoing since Feb. 15.
Wiener joined with his fellow supervisors in agreeing that the focus on McLawren Terrace, where the damaged homes sit, should be stabilizing the ground on the properties so District crews can assess and make repairs to a stormwater drain line that runs between the two homes. That way, supervisors agreed, the currently blocked-off McLawren Terrace can be repaired and frazzled residents living in the area can get their lives back to some semblance of order.
Wiener’s first official meeting also marked the final one for Chairman Paul Kelly, who led the charge along with District Administrator Richard Baier to push Marion County in the direction of ground stabilization at the McLawren Terrace properties. Otherwise, supervisors agreed, legal action is a possibility.
