Health inspector shuts down Belleview eatery over multiple violations

A Belleview restaurant was temporarily shut down earlier this month after a health inspector reported seven violations – three listed as high priority – at the eatery.

A health inspector recently found seven violations at Cal’s Place in Belleview.

During an Oct. 5 visit to Cal’s Place, located at 11007 SE 66th Terr., an inspector found live roaches in several places throughout the kitchen and food prep area. Issues were documented regarding cold food – pasta with beef, meatloaf, tuna salad and rice – being stored at higher than 41 degrees. And the dish-machine’s chlorine sanitizer wasn’t “at proper minimum strength,” a report on file with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation states.

The inspector also found an accumulation of a black/green mold-like substance in the interior of the restaurant’s ice machine. And required training for some employees had expired.

Finally, the inspector reported dead roaches at a server area and inside a cabinet. And two beverage container’s belonging to employees were sitting on a prep table.

The restaurant remained closed the following day when the inspector paid a second visit and then was allowed to reopen after a third visit later in the day.
