A Wildwood man was seriously injured in a crash that claimed a Tampa man’s life in Marion County.
James Mazyck, 47, had been a passenger in a 1991 GMC Sierra driven by 53-year-old Douglas Williams Jr. of Brooksville which had been traveling at 9:25 p.m Saturday southbound on U.S. 441, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Williams ran a red light at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 441 and SE 80th Street and struck a 2006 Toyota Scion driven by a 46-year-old Tampa man who was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified pending notification of next of kin. A 46-year-old female passenger suffered critical injuries and was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center.
Williams, whose GMC Sierra overturned in the crash, suffered critical injuries and was also transported to ORMC, along with Mazyck.
The report indicated that Williams had consumed alcohol prior to the crash. Neither he or Mazyck had been wearing a seatbelt.
