Charles Newman

The saga of an 82-year-old grandfather raising his grandson in The Villages generated both anger and compassion among readers of Villages-News.com.

The conflict between Charles Newman and his adult daughter was the year’s #8 story.

Charles Newman’s 42-year-old daughter, Susan Newman, eventually vacated her father’s home at 1813 W. Schwartz Blvd. on the Historic Side of The Villages. The father, daughter and grandson had been living together for years at his home.

Charles Newman’s frustration got the better of him in September when he was arrested on a charge of battery after an altercation with his daughter. As a result of that altercation, Newman was banned from his own home, where Susan Newman, who has a history of drug arrests, continued to live with her son, who was attending The Villages Charter School.

Newman was ordered into anger management and was allowed to return to his home by the boy’s ninth birthday.
