Serial shoplifter from Santo Domingo arrested after allegedly stealing cologne and polo shirt

Daniel Ryan Pettit

A serial shoplifter from the Village of Santo Domingo was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal cologne and a polo shirt.

Daniel Ryan Pettit, 36, on Friday night entered the Belk store at La Plaza Grande in The Villages and selected a bottle of Prada cologne, which he concealed in the pocket of his jacket, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The New York native then selected three polo shirts and went into a fitting room. When he exited the fitting room, he only had two polo shirts. Pettit was arrested when he attempted to leave the store with the merchandise for which he had not paid. He had concealed the polo shirt under a shirt he was already wearing. The value of the stolen merchandise was $127.95.

A check revealed six prior theft arrests in New York and Florida.

He was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $2,000 bond.

Pettit was also arrested last year in The Villages when he was found to have a Mason jar full of marijuana and in 2017 after a brawl with a woman at his home at 1822 Cordero Court.
