Four people were hospitalized after a crash on a “dangerous” street in The Villages that has been the subject of much recent discussion.
The two-car collision at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Del Mar Drive and Rio Grande Avenue resulted in four people being transported to The Villages Regional Hospital.
Earl Sidney Devine, 78, of Rockwood, Ontario, had been at the wheel of a silver 2007 Town and Country minivan, which had been traveling south on Del Mar Drive when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Rio Grande Avenue, according to an accident report from the Lady Lake Police Department. His minivan collided with a white 2014 Honda CRV driven by 89-year-old Lester Robert Voell, of the Village of Rio Grande.
Devine, Voell and passengers in their vehicles were all taken to TVRH by Lake County EMS.
Devine was ticketed on a charge of failure to yield at an intersection.
Del Mar Drive has been the subject of concern of Villagers worried about their safety.
Residents spoke out on about their concerns about Del Mar Drive in September before the Lady Lake Commission. Villagers also complained this past week about the problematic Del Mar Gate during a budget workshop conducted by the Amenity Authority Committee.
