A Village of Duval woman was arrested after allegedly stealing at three local stores.
Shelly Jean Henson, 68, on Tuesday went to Belk at La Plaza Grande in The Villages and was observed on the store’s video surveillance system selecting items. It appeared she had put the merchandise into her purse while visiting a fitting room, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Henson left the store and when the loss prevention officer checked the fitting room, he discovered security tags which had been removed from the merchandise. The merchandise was valued at $704.
The loss prevention officer said Henson had been at the store this past September. Henson entered the store and was caught on surveillance leaving the store in a different outfit from the one she was wearing when she entered the store. He was aware of her name, because she paid for other merchandise with a credit card.
Henson’s vehicle was spotted at Kohl’s at Village Crossroads shopping center. A police officer contacted the store’s loss prevention officer and they watched Henson take merchandise into a fitting room. When she exited the fitting room, her purse appeared to be stuffed with merchandise.
When she was approached by a police officer outside Kohl’s, the North Carolina native admitted she had stolen merchandise in her purse. She also confessed that she had items stolen from Belk in her car, along with merchandise stolen from Target at Rolling Acres Plaza.
Henson was arrested on two counts of grand theft and two counts of petit theft. She was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $6,000 bond.
