A golf ambassador, a CPA, a nurse and a retired-city-manager-turned-online-columnist are among applicants for a vacant supervisor post in Community Development District 2.
The four applicants will be considered when the CDD 2 board meets at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the District Office at Lake Sumter Landing.
The applicants are vying to fill the vacancy created by the death late last year of Supervisor John Blum.
The applicants are:
• Richard Benson was a policy analyst for the Air Force working at the Pentagon prior to retiring a year ago and moving to The Villages. He has owned a home in The Villages since 2013. He is now a golf ambassador at Tierra Del Sol Championship Golf Course.
• Barry Evans moved to The Villages 18 years ago. Before retiring, Evans had a long career as a city manager, something he writes about frequently in his regular weekly column in Villages-News.com. He spent more than four decades serving in municipal government. Evans has also served on the Villages Homeowners Association Board of Directors and served as a VHA representative for a dozen years.
• Candace Ginns was a registered nurse before she moved seven and a half years ago to Florida’s Friendliest Hometown. She currently serves as the recording secretary for The Villages Regional Hospital Auxiliary Foundation Executive Committee. She also serves as the chairperson of the Auxiliary Day Captains’ Office. The Day Captain serves as the resource person for the other volunteers on the shift at the hospital.
• Thomas Swiers enjoyed a career as an investment banker and CPA. He serves as an alternate representative for CDD 2 on the Architectural Review Committee. Swiers since 1992 has run The Summit Organization LLC. He also served for 21 years on the Zoning Board of Appeals in Kildeer, Ill. He was also involved in the United Way of Elk Grove, Ill. and served as president of the organization.
