Community Development District 2 has a new supervisor.
Candy Ginns, who lives in the Village of Santo Domingo, is a longtime registered nurse who moved to The Villages about seven and a half years ago. She was selected over three other applicants that included a certified professional accountant, a former Air Force policy analyst and a retired city manager. Ginns filled the vacancy created by the death late last year of Supervisor John Blum.
“I feel excited for this opportunity,” Ginns said. “There was a great complement of applicants, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.”
Ginns said she knew what she brought to the table, but the other applicants also offered many different strengths. She also pointed out that of the 65 District supervisors serving across The Villages, she becomes only the eighth woman serving in that role.
“I think’s it’s great to add a female perspective,” she said.
Ginns currently serves as the recording secretary for The Villages Regional Hospital Auxiliary Foundation Executive Committee. She also is the chairperson of the Auxiliary Day Captains’ Office. In that role, she serves as the resource person for the other volunteers on the shift at the hospital.
Ginns was selected over:
- Richard Benson, an ambassador at the Tierra Del Sol Championship Golf Course who served in the Air Force and worked at the Pentagon before retiring to The Villages a year ago;
- Barry Evans, a longtime city manager who moved to The Villages 18 years ago and has served on the Villages Homeowners Association Board of Directors and as a VHA representative for a dozen years; and
- Thomas Swiers, a CPA and former investment banker who serves as an alternate representative for CDD 2 on the Architectural Review Committee and is a past United Way president in Elk Grove, Ill.
