To the Editor:
My one requirement of our retirement destination was it have a band. The Villages fit that requirement nicely.
After moving here I joined the NH Concert Band, Saxsations and Sunshine Strollers. These groups have provided a lot of great entertainment for Villages residents.
I really take offense at the words “professional” as all performers, in their chosen “profession,” practice long hours and months in order to put on a professional presentation.
I would like to know what you classify as a “professional”? The cost of the tickets?
I for one cannot afford to go to The Sharon performances by “professional entertainers” because the tickets are priced so high.
Just because someone has a “name” doesn’t make them a professional. The BOTV groups have been asked by many venues to perform.
The Sunshine Strollers are a fantastic entertainment group that engages the audience – which to me is what entertainment really is. The Saxsations provided lobby music while patrons were waiting for the concert to begin. These were both greatly appreciated by the residents but the Entertainment Department elected to cut them for purely “professional” reasons. Bunk.
