Pamela Claire Maroney

A Villager was arrested on a drunk driving charge Friday night at a restaurant at Lake Sumter Landing.

A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy at 6:03 p.m. responded to the parking lot of Cody’s Original Roadhouse for a well-being check on a woman who had been sitting for more than an hour in a white Buick Enclave. Her eyes were glazed, she was shaking and would not acknowledge anyone who was talking to her, according to an arrest report.

When the deputy approached the car, the woman, later identified as 65-year-old Pamela Claire Maroney, of the Village of Duval, was “bouncing her legs up and down as if she was very nervous.” She had glassy eyes, was “sweating profusely” and had a flushed face. The deputy asked Maroney if she had a medical condition and Maroney smiled and said no. The odor of alcohol was detected.

The deputy invited the Minnesota native to participate in field sobriety exercises, but she had a difficult time getting out of the car. During the exercises, Maroney admitted she was drunk.

A half-empty 200ml bottle of Smirnoff vodka was found under the seat of the car. She was handcuffed and taken to the Sumter County Detention Center.

“The defendant cried uncontrollably for half of the ride,” the deputy wrote in the report.

At the jail, Maroney provided breath samples that registered .206 and .203 blood alcohol content.

She was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence. She was released after posting $1,000 bond.
