The Architectural Review Committee on Wednesday was divided on a Villager’s request to remove a problematic tree from her yard.
Heather Imbalzano, of 1222 Pompano Lane in the Village of Orange Blossom Gardens, appeared before the ARC to seek to remove the large water oak tree from her yard. She described the damage caused by the tree’s roots, which broke a water main and cracked her driveway. She also said the roots are “dangerous” and a neighbor nearly tripped on them.
She said an arborist had advised her she might try a root barrier. But she said it’s too late.
“It’s too late for root barriers. It’s like shutting the barn door after the horse is out,” she told the committee.
Imbalzano told the ARC she will plant another canopy tree in her yard after this tree is removed.
When it came time for a vote, the ARC was divided with six voting to allow the tree removal and four voting against it.
The ARC also approved other tree removal requests, including:
• John and Gloria Kramer, of 1808 Hartford Path of the Village of Bridgeport at Lake Miona, won permission to remove an oak tree from their yard. They indicated they will replace it with a Sylvester Palm.
• James and Sara Daley, of 991 Talapia Loop of the Village of Sabal Chase, also were given permission by the ARC to remove an oak tree from their front yard. They also cited an “aggressive root system.”
