A woman who stood up against a proposed Wawa has been appointed to the Lady Lake Planning and Zoning Board.
Nora Choquette became a prominent voice in 2017 when the megachain announced plans to build a gas station and convenience store at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and County Road 466.
Choquette, who works as a content specialist at Marion County Schools, wrote a piece about the price of progress which appeared in Villages-News.com.
The Lady Lake Commission on Monday voted to appoint Choquette to the planning and zoning board. She will replace former Chairman John Gauder, who died Jan. 14.
Choquette received three votes from the five commissioners. She was selected over three other applicants – Villagers Judy Glasel and Robert Nyce and Water Oaker Kenneth Voiles.
Villager Robert Conlin Sr. and Water Oaker William Sigurdson were reappointed to their seats on the Planning and Zoning Board.
