The Amenity Authority Committee has chosen a name for the recreation center to be built at the former home of the First Baptist Church in The Villages.
The AAC on Wednesday chose the name First Responders Recreation Center for the building that will honor first responders. It was among three name choices offered to the AAC. The others were the Courage Recreation Center and Responding Heroes Recreation Center.
Community Development District 4 Supervisor Mark Hayes, who spent his career in law enforcement and at one point served as public safety chief over both the police and fire departments, encouraged the AAC to ask retired first responders in The Villages to donate memorabilia for the new recreation center.
The AAC also learned that more than 2,400 surveys have been completed by residents, indicating what they would like to see offered at the recreation center, which will be located in CDD 4.
