To the Editor:

On Friday, Apr. 5, The New York Times reported that three historically black churches in St. Landry Parish just North of Lafayette, Louisiana (and a fourth in Caddo Parish) suffered extensive fire damage this past week or so.
There is little doubt but that these fires were intentionally set according to local officials and the State Fire Marshal as well as the investigators from both the FBI and the ATF.
Sheriff Bobby Guidroz of St. Landry Parish said: “We’re doing everything we can, collectively, to solve this crime.”
I bring these incidents to the attention of the readers of this site as it is my considered opinion, for what that may be worth, that the mis-guided and hypocritical rhetoric of The Donald either precipitated or, at the very least, encouraged these criminal acts; and they were perpetrated by The Donald’s “fine people” who he claims are on both sides of the racial divide that continues to plague our great nation. I also suspect that if this letter is published, I will be castigated as one of those lefty, progressive, communist/socialist/Marxist/Bolshevik/Fascist/Nazi (each of which is equal and the same in the so-called minds of the most ignorant among us), bleeding heart liberal Democrats, epithets that I welcome. But so often, especially in recent months, the blatant racism that has been expressed on this site, while extremely disappointing, is no longer surprising.
Cripes, there are still idiots out there who continue to argue the “birther” debate viz-a-viz President Obama, an unfounded theory that has been debunked time and time again in recent years. Obviously still “faux news” to many of this site’s narrow-minded and naïve readers. But I also suspect those same adherents of The Donald would also describe President Obama as “uppity.” Needless to say, such racist comments are primarily generated by those anonymous and nameless trolls and troglodytes who emerge from their caves from time to time to promulgate their own brand of hatred and racist rhetoric which is generally nothing more than a rehash of the over-heated rhetoric of their Racist-in-Chief. And this is what our great nation has come to some 150 years after the abolition of slavery. What a hell of a legacy to leave to our kids and grandkids.  As Pogo Possum once said: “We have met the enemy, and he is us!”
