A woman was arrested after fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run crash at Wales Plaza and U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in The Villages.
The woman, whose vehicle was struck at about 7:30 a.m. Monday, said she had been stopped at a red light. She got out and approached the driver of a tan older model Ford Explorer that then pulled away. She had taken several photos of the Explorer and got a possible license plate number.
The Explorer was spotted about two hours later at RaceTrac on U.S. Hwy. 27/441. The driver of the vehicle, 28-year-old Judith Simms, of Dunnellon, denied having been involved in an accident, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The officer called the woman whose vehicle had been struck. She came to RaceTrac and identified the Explorer and Simms as having been involved in the earlier accident.
Simms was taken into custody and the officer performed an inventory of her vehicle. Bags containing a white powdery substance were discovered.
Simms was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a crash and possession of methamphetamine. She was booked at the Lake County Jail on $2,500 bond.
