To the Editor:

For the past month, Beyond the Walls food Panty in Fruitland Park, has been collecting gently used shoes as a project to help the people of Haiti.

The team set a goal to raise 100 bags of shoes with 25 shoes per bag through the month of May. To date, they have meet the goal and have collected over 2,500 pairs of shoes yet they are committed to continuing the efforts through the month of May. Beyond the Walls leadership have been working with individuals and local groups within the area to help in this missional endeavor such as Munn’s Air Conditioning, Tri-County Podiatry, Zoom Drain, Fruitland Park Elementary, Fruitland Park Library, Heritage Community Church, and Good News Church to name a few.

We have been overwhelmed at the amount of support from our local community in partnering with us to make a difference.

This past weekend, a Breast Cancer awareness event called the “Princess Muddy Run” was held at Grand Oaks Resort in Lady Lake and nearly 500 pairs of shoes were collected. If you would like to join in and help us in collecting shoes for Haiti, you can contact me at (352) 455-4606 or at [email protected]

The first shipment of shoes will be picked up from Beyond the Walls, next Thursday May 9 between 3 -3:30 p.m. by  FundS2.org  so they can be weighed and processed for shipping.
