Kiley McClain Aswell

A man who told police he was “down on his luck” was arrested in the theft of an item from Target at Rolling Acres Plaza.

Kiley Aswell, 36, entered the store on the afternoon of April 27 and left with a set of JBL bluetooth wireless headphones for which he had not paid, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. A police officer who reviewed the store’s surveillance footage recognized Aswell from an encounter earlier in the day. Later that day, a white Ford Explorer that Aswell was driving was pulled over in the parking lot of Beyers Funeral Home on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Lady Lake.

The native New Yorker admitted to taking the headphones, valued at $499.

“I know I messed up,” Aswell told police.

He said he was down on his luck and confessed that he had intended to sell the headphones to raise some cash.

He was arrested on a charge of theft and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
