Day-Break Club of The Villages crowns queen and king at Senior Prom event

Virginia Ferreri, of the Village of Buttonwood, and Bill Koehler, of the Village of Duval, were crowned queen and king at the Day-Break Club of The Villages’ recent Senior Prom event.

The Day-Break Club of The Villages recently celebrated its fifth annual Senior Prom.

Virginia Ferreri, of the Village of Buttonwood, and Bill Koehler, of the Village of Duval, were crowned queen and king. The event was held Tuesday, May 28 at the Odell Recreation Center.

Crowning a prom queen and king every year is a rich tradition for the Day-Break Club. It’s a celebration that first started in May 2014 at the Odell Recreation Center with the naming of Melinda Johnson and Michael Elfrank as the group’s first-ever prom queen and king.

At Tuesday’s event, Forever Young provided doo-wop music from the sixties. There were plenty of smiles in the room. And all attendees reported having a wonderful evening together.

In April, the active club, which offers respite care in a supervised environment for loved ones with Alzheimer’s, dementia and another special needs, was honored by the VHA as its 2018 Volunteer Organization of the Year.

This past August, the group held a 99th birthday for one of its members. And special events – honoring volunteers, crazy hat day, Kentucky Derby, Memorial Day celebrations and a canine wedding put on by the Dynamic Dog Club, to name a few – are held throughout the year to make meetings even more special for participants.

Those wishing to learn more about the Day-Break Club can visit its website at http://www.day-break-club.com. The website contains a brochure and a membership packet that can be filled out and returned at any meeting. Members must be a resident of The Villages.
