Meta Jane Mortensen, 78, formerly of Vienna, VA passed away peacefully on June 25, 2019 at Cypress Care Center in Wildwood, FL. Janie was born January 13, 1941 in Miami, FL to the late Wayne and Meta (Loose) Hearne.
“Janie” dedicated her life to the accounting practice she opened in 1973, helping many small business owners achieve success. She also served, in the community, on board of directors over the years. In 1989, she was featured in The Washington Post Magazine article “Stretching for Success”.
Janie was an avid sports spectator, particularly auto racing and NBA games. She also enjoyed Track & Field competition, herself competing in the Senior Olympics with the shot put. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLean, VA.
Survivors include her children, Laura Ankeney and Kathryn Mendonca (Marcelo); brother, Joseph Hearne (Jan Brett); grandchildren, Leonardo Mendonca, Kelly Ankeney and Cecilia Mendonca.
A celebration of her life will be held in Northern Virginia in August.
