Police have tracked down suspects in the theft of more than $2,000 worth of cigarettes from Sam’s Club in Lady Lake.
The theft had occurred back on May 21 when a loss prevention officer noticed three men leaving the store through a rear emergency exit, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.
A review of surveillance footage showed that one of the men had scaled a secure cage and tossed 30 cartons of Newport cigarettes to the other two men. The 30 cartons of cigarettes were valued at $2,087.
Sam’s Club provided information about similar thefts in the Tampa area, and in each case, someone had climbed over the secure cage. Suspects also left through an emergency door in each of the cases.
A multi-jurisdictional investigation led to the identification of the getaway vehicle as a 2013 dark blue Hyundai Elantra.
Warrants of arrest have been issued for suspects in the theft cases, which also includes Pasco County.
