Those wishing to donate supplies to help students at Wildwood Elementary School in the coming year have additional locations available for drop-offs.

Many different items are needed by students at the school, which is at a 90 percent poverty level. Without the help of those in the community, teachers oftentimes end up using their wages to buy items so their students don’t go without.

You can see lists of needed items at these links: Wildwood Elementary and Wildwood Elementary Pre K.

Villager Faye Scher and Wildwood Elementary School Principal John Temple.

Cash donations and checks also are welcome, as that money can be used to place bulk orders. And residents are encouraged to get their clubs to help through 50/50 drawings or collections at summer meetings.

The drop-off locations, including the three new ones, are:

  • 4428 Tuscaloosa Path in the Village of Osceola Hills, The Villages;
  • Hair and Nail Creations, Freedom Shopping Center, 3990 E State Road 44, Wildwood;
  • Sumter County Democratic Executive Committee Headquarters, 300 S. Main St., Wildwood (located in the former bank building in the Save-A-Lot shopping center off U.S. 301. The location faces Wildwood Hardware and hours are Monday and Tuesday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Wednesday usually 3-7 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.;
  • State Farm office in the Village of Fenney, 4386 Warm Springs Ave. (office hours only);
  • 1426 Juarez Pl in the Village of Rio Ponderosa (north of County Road 466); and
  • 3106 Merrit Lane in the Village of Fenny (Mockingbird Villas off White Ibis Run)

In addition, checks and supplies can be sent or dropped off at Villager and Wildwood Elementary volunteer Faye Scher’s home in the Village of Gilchrist at 3051 Bureau Path (near Buena Vista Boulevard and Pinellas). Online orders can be shipped directly to her home as well.

Scher also is asking for everyone to include a large-size hand sanitizer, Kleenex or underwear, if possible. She said they ran out of hand sanitizer and Kleenex by flu season last year and underwear for both boys and girls, all sizes, is kept in the nurse’s office for use when needed.

The deadline for Scher to receive supplies is Aug. 3 so she has time to sort and group them before school starts.

“Last year we needed a box truck to get the supplies to the school. And extra supplies were shared with other local schools,” she said.
