When equality suffocates liberty

Dennis Petrucelli

The stage is set as Democrat presidential hopefuls carry forward their legislative agenda for equality. This shibboleth has been ongoing since the 1970’s as the Democrats continue to stoke their base, insisting that everyone is entitled to unrestricted equal results. To achieve this goal the Democrats, resort to the ubiquitous power play of dividing people into groups, pitting the rich against all others, the alleged aggrieved. And so, Democrats succeeded in designating a “protected class status”, their chosen, and as designees, perpetuates their victim-hood affording them the right to be the only aggrieved party.  Democrats pander to the protected classes, providing them with extravagant subsidies and granting special status in employment, education, etc., even those who are illegal immigrants. And while it has not been lost on me that Republicans for their part pander to special interest groups, my focus here is singularly to this issue of Democrats brand of equality and its adverse consequences.

The Democrats claim of discrimination in race, religion, sex, sexual preferences or origin of country will live in perpetuity because their remedies have the intentional consequence of over-engineering that in which they claim to want to abolish.  With their brand of equality, Democrats deny, discount and ignore positive results from people’s abilities, hard work, law-abiding behavior, intelligence or seizing business opportunities and superimposes alleged discrimination in all instances which has the lingering consequences of the “boy who cried wolf.”

Their wayward definition of equality essentially causes the systemic destruction of human liberty. This is because when people try and hold two contradictory thoughts such as liberty and equality, the result is double mindedness and unstable thinking. Double mindedness is nothing more than bad faith or double heartedness. It is fraud, deception or the intentional deceit of others. The more our society accepts the Democrats definition of equality the closer we all come to government slavery. This is not what the framers meant nor intended when they crafted the Declaration of Independence.

Democratic presidential candidates claim they can end discrimination, granting equality to all as they now advance a bill called the “Equality Act.” This is another example of their “George Constanza” policy making which in effect, will do the exact opposite of what it purports to accomplish, in this instance, equality. Its intended purpose is to enhance existing civil rights legislation to ban discrimination against LGBTQ people in every aspect. Its intended target is the complete rescinding of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and require Christian churches and organizations to accommodate and essentially acquiesce to the gay’s community beliefs, irrespective or contrary to their personal or religious beliefs amounting to a blatant assault on religious liberty.

The Democrats claim their designated “chosen” should be accorded special rights but these are invented rights and in actuality are privileges provided at the expense of others. In essence, the real natural rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are ignored and will disappear from memory. In other words, the rights of their “chosen” are superior to the “rights” of all others simply because their chosen have been granted special privileges (invented rights) that never before existed.

Ostensibly, the freedom to discriminate is essential to liberty. It is not the role or right of any politician or government official to determine which discrimination is acceptable and which is not, nor to enforce, as a counter-measure its own governmental form of discrimination. However, that is exactly what the Democrats did when they over reached following the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

From a practical point of view, we discriminate in our everyday lives? We discriminate when we choose, our life partner, neighborhood, job, restaurants, insurance company, doctor, repair shop, golf foursome, church, or decision not to attend church? If a person doesn’t like religious people, they have right to stay out of churches, mosques, synagogues. If a person doesn’t like kids, they have free choice to stay away from schools and to not procreate. If a person is offended by a particular news station, they can freely switch channels. Free choice is the banner flown by progressives to justify taking the life of an unborn (abortion).

The right to discriminate is referred to as liberty, freedom of choice and, in the concept of natural law, freedom of association as guaranteed in the 1st Amendment. But do not attempt to introduce this concept to a Democrat because you will be accused of being a racist, misogynist, homophobic or xenophobic while their hidden reason lies in that famous movie line, “you can’t handle the truth”. One last parting thought, is invoking skin color in the manner Nancy Pelosi has when she accuses Trump’s attempts to “Make America White Again”, a racist remark?  Is it possible that the protected class status frees such designees from committing any racist acts or remarks and that only white people can be racist, misogynist, homophobic xenophobic?
