CDD 2 supervisors to weigh in on future of Recreation News

The Community Development District 2 Board of Supervisors next month will discuss the future of Recreation News.

More than $800,000 of residents’ amenities fees is spent each year for the production of the weekly supplement in The Villages Daily Sun. The production of the pulp product has stirred controversy in the community.

“Technology has changed. It’s time to move on,” CDD 2 Supervisor Barton Zoellner said at Friday’s board meeting.

He added that nearly every Villages resident has a smart phone.

Although CDD 2 has no authority over Recreation News, Supervisor Bryan Lifsey suggested it is time for CDD 2 to take a position on Recreation News and let the Amenity Authority Committee know where the board stands.

AAC members have already put pressure on Recreation Director John Rohan to reduce the costs and bring the Recreation News online.

The CDD 2 Board of Supervisors’ next meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 13 at the District Office at Lake Sumter Landing.
